Artist Statement
The existence of life is a miraculous phenomenon. The fact that we as humans
maintain a consciousness and are capable of higher-order thinking is something I find
marvelous. This is the inspiration for my art and is what drives me to create.
Within the artwork that I make, I focus on three main derivatives of the beauty of life: the
wonder of the human form, the act of visual play, and the significance of childhood. My
fascination with the human figure revolves around the idea that it is a powerhouse. Our
bodies do so much to keep us alive that we often overlook it. The way that our bodies
function and act as vessels for our souls is something that I find so tender about being
alive. This idea inspires me to make art to show others how beautiful our bodies are and
how they should be appreciated and celebrated.
Visual play is a topic I heavily explore in my art making. As it relates to life, I believe
that due to life’s fleeting nature, we should spend the time we have alive doing things that
we enjoy. I put this into practice when I create certain artworks, allowing myself the
freedom of play. It’s my hope that those who view these pieces can find fun in looking at
them and share in my joy of life.
The appreciation I have for childhood and its importance is arguably the one topic of
the main three that I focus on the most. Our childhoods are the basis for our lives and
determine so much of the life we lead as adults. I draw from my own childhood as
inspiration for my art, and I aim to use it in a way that will bridge the gap between
generations of children. I hold so much appreciation for children, and I strive to use my art
to show others how wonderful and important their lives are.
The tools, topics, and techniques that I use often result in very diverse looking work.
While this can be seen as a negative, I find that it mimics real life in all its changes and
phases. My work is all linked together through my view and appreciation for life. Art has
always imitated life and that’s the basis of how I create, I want to use my art to show others how beautiful being alive really is.
